smiles of the day: four months of braces left!!! been enjoying colour in my mouth and this journey hasn't given me much pain, but when my dentist told me that I was really happy :) / night running with good music + God / talking to my favourite friend after a hard day

after being tucked into bed, the little girl looked up into her father's eyes. she asks him, why is the sky so dark at night? why do the birds have to go back to sleep, why does the world have to become so quiet and lonely? so he tells her a story, of how God created love and light and wondrous creatures. he tells her, if the roads are darker, if the houses are darker, if the fields and seas are darker, the world would seem smaller, eerie and scary, so God took all the black and threw it up into the skies, creating night.
but, he says, that doesn't mean that night time has to be sad. in fact, God gave us night for us to take a break, it is His way of closing the curtains, pressing pause and saying, take a break before I give you any more. this is why you can wake up each morning with a smile, knowing that God has made your day to be better than the last.
and the day, he continues, the day is bright so that we can see all that is good, we will see the light blue of the brilliant beaming sky and the birds that converge in migration. we see the infinity of trees and fields, the joyous claps of dancing children, laughing, smiling, we see flowers in a myriad of different colours, we see faces of the people we love, and we know that this is God's creative force beaming around us.
this is how I grew up feeling safe as each day closes and begins again, he says, kissing her goodnight, as she closes her eyes. this is how I know you'll be alright when you're out there, and I'm not with you.
