elephants

"I wonder how beautiful the world would be if we lived, hurt and loved like elephants. When an elephant goes through grief, be it a lost mate, a dying baby calf or a newborn baby calf beside a dying mother elephant, all the elephants in the common herd will cry. For some reason the pain is communicated to all the elephants and they weep together. And then the love. When a pair of elephants have finished mating, the others will erupt in celebration. Trumpeting, cheering and joyful with the fact that a pair of lovers have been happy. The love is communicated to everyone and if you’re lucky you can see them celebrating against the savannah sky.

Imagine that. Imagine how strong they are to be able to endure everybody’s pain on top of their own, and how blessed they are to bask in the love sitting behind every majestic body. How emphatic this makes them. Imagine if we were to feel each person’s pain, if we were to feel each person’s love. Their hurt is your hurt and their love is your love. Imagine that we could emphatically communicate the way elephants can. I don’t think people would hurt each other as much as they do now." - Diana
